In 2004 he won the Rising Star Award, today Pictou County native, George Canyon has numerous awards including Male artist of the Year, Country Recording of the Year, Single of the Year, along with many nominations. The South Shore Exhibition is pleased to present George Canyon live and on stage on Saturday, August 1st, 2009. George received his first guitar at the age of 4, it was home made by his Mom & Dad. George’s first performance was on stage at his schools variety show, singing “The Rose” and “A Hard Days Night.” In 2003 canyon auditioned for Nashville Star but came short of Brad Cotter. Shortly after the shows last episode, Universal South Records signed him and released his first debut album, One Good Friend.
